The former Riverside Primary School in Wandsworth, London, was established in 1909. The listed building is now part of the current Southfields Academy.
Wood Window Alliance member Heron Joinery were approached by Wandsworth Council to support the refurbishment of the windows and doors in the school. The windows needed to be replaced with thermally efficient, double glazed windows that were made to visually match the existing windows and doors. Heron supplied a full design, manufacture and installation package for both the replacement windows and for the emergency exit doors.
The design of the replacement windows and doors had to approved by planning and Heron Joinery helped Wandsworth Council to achieve a design that was acceptable. The design encompassed large sliding sash windows, typical of Victorian period schools, and casement windows. Following installation, the windows have meant that the once draughty rooms are now transformed into warm and welcoming classrooms.
